Please do note that the Bungou to Alchemist game was originally launched as a browser game on PC in November 1st, 2016. A mobile app version was launched on June 14th, 2017 and the game supports cross-platform play, meaning that you can play same account both on PC and mobile. Please do note that the game is only available in Japanese.

How to Install

App icon

This app is available on the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store for the following systems:

  • Android OS 5.0 and later
  • iPhone 5s and later, iOS 10 and later

See the Android section for how to download and install the game for Android devices, and iOS section for Apple users.

Once you have downloaded and installed the game either on Android or iOS, you may play the game. New players and returning players (those who haven't played the game since July 28th, 2021) will need to go through the game's tutorial. See our guide Getting Started for more information on how to nagivate through the tutorial and how to play the game. Questions and more information is available on Frequently Asked Questions page.

Android

Important: In order to install QooApp or TapTap as well as the BunAl app via third-party sites, you must enable installation of apps from unknown sources under "Settings" -> "Security" -> "Unknown Sources". This can be deactivated once you have successfully installed the app(s).

QooApp

You can download BunAl via the QooApp application (a third-party mobile app repository). Updates to the APK itself (if any) can also be downloaded from the QooApp application.
1. Go to the QooApp website: QooApp
2. Tap on the QooApp icon to download the QooApp APK.
3. After the download, install/open QooApp.
4. Search up 文豪とアルケミスト or "Bungo to Alchemist" to find and download the BunAl App APK.
5. When the game update needs you to update through the Play Store, you can go to QooApp and download the update as you normally would other apps.

TapTap

Similar to QooApp, TapTap's application allows to bypass regionlock and get access to apps that otherwise would be inaccessible in certain countries.
1. Head to TapTap's website to download their official app: TapTap
2. Tap on the Android icon to download TapTap app.
3. After the download, install/open TapTap.
4. Search up the game with 文豪とアルケミスト from the app, or head to the direct link to download and install Bungou to Alchemist.
5. Just like in QooApp's case, if the game demands update through Play Store, you will need to do it through TapTap (or QooApp if you wish so).

Other options

The game's APK for Android can be also downloaded from other various other sites on the internet (APKPure etc.), but there are security risks when downloading and accessing suspicious sites. Please do download the mobile version of Bungou to Alcemist only from sites that are deemed safe.

iOS

The only way to install the BunAl App is to download directly from Apple App Store. The following guide for creating Japanese App Store Account might not work anymore!

1. Create a Japanese App Store Account. (If you already have one skip to step 2).
1.1 In the App Store, log out of your existing account if you have not already.
1.2 Find any free app (So you do not have to input your credit card later on), press install and press "Create Apple ID".
1.3 Scroll all the way down until you see 日本 (Japan) and select it.
1.4 Agree to Terms and Conditions.
1.5 Input your email address (one that has not been linked to an iTunes account) in メール (mail), your password into パスワード (password) and repeat the same password underneath. Password must be at least 8 characters long and must contain a capitalized letter and a number.
1.6 Security Questions is below the password so just select anything and write anything in the answers. (If you are considering spending money on the game, save your questions with the answers somewhere.)
1.7 Underneath security questions is recovery email (optional).
1.8 Input your birthday (年 = year, 月 = month and 日 = day).
1.9 Underneath just untick the 2 if you want to and click 次へ (next).
1.10 After you arrive at the next page, you should see credit cards. You want to select なし (none). If you do not see this option, find a free app and press install.
1.11 Skip the ITUNES CARD section. For the next part, it does not matter what you write in the first 4 boxes. However the 5th asks for an address. Apple checks if the city, prefecture and postal code are valid. Since (assuming) you do not live in Japan, you can use the address of a business or hotel (Take note that it does violate Apples Terms and Conditions).

  • 郵便番号 = Postal Code. Go search up a list of postal codes in your chosen prefecture. We'll go with Tokyo for this one. For example, I wanted a postal code in Enokicho, Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo. According to this, the postal code I need is 162-0806.
  • 都道府県 = Prefecture. I selected 東京都 (Tokyo), since that's more believable than, say, Hyougo.
  • 市区町村 = City. Since I went with Enokicho, I would input 榎町. Of course, your preferences may vary.
  • 住所 = Address. Type anything you like, doesn't matter.
  • 電話番号 = Phone number. It accepts 080 55555555. Another option is to search up a phone number for a hotel or restaurant and use that.

1.12 With the email you used as your Apple ID, click the link and login. You should be verified.

2. Search for the game with 文豪とアルケミスト or "Bungo to Alchemist". Install the game and you are ready to play. If there is an update through the App Store, simply log in your Japanese iTunes account and go to the Updates tab.

Creating a New Account on the Mobile App

This is a guide for those creating a Bungo to Alchemist account for the first time on the mobile application.

1. You may be asked to agree to terms as shown in step 4 of the Syncing PC -> App tutorial. Once you have agreed, tap the yellow button on the left to start the game.

2. Enter in the "librarian name" you want to use in the box shown below. After you are done, the button on the left that says "確定" will light up golden, and you can click it to confirm. (Note: It must be 12 or less characters. The name can be changed later.)

App1.png

3. The app will ask you again if you are sure this is the librarian name you want. Make sure it is, then click the golden button on the left that says "はい", shown below.

App2.png

See the Getting Started page for a tutorial how to play the game, and please do see Main Library and Office pages for additional information regarding various gameplay features that get quickly introduced in the tutorial.

Syncing Tutorial

The aim of this tutorial is to inform the user on how to sync data between the PC (browser) version and the app (mobile application) version of the Bungo to Alchemist game.

Syncing PC -> App

If you have already been playing Bungo to Alchemist on the PC version, the following steps will allow you to sync that data with the app version of the game on your phone or tablet.

1. Open the game page on your PC, then click the banner under the game that says "Link with mobile app here" (スマホ連動はこちら) on it. It is the one boxed in red below. (Note: If you do not see this banner, try clearing your cookies/cache and then refreshing or logging in to your game in an incognito window)

Sync1.png

2. Scroll down, and you will see in the table two boxes with yellow buttons in them. Click the yellow button in the box on the left, as boxed in red below.

Sync2.png

3. A syncing ID (連動ID) will appear consisting of about ten numbers and letters, along with two boxes below. Choose a password that you will remember and enter that password into both boxes. It must consist of 4-20 regular-sized alphanumeric characters. Once you have finished click the yellow button on the left to confirm. (Note: the tutorial says to choose a password with 4-16 alphanumeric characters, so if you have trouble with a longer password, try shortening it to fit this requirement instead)

4. Now open the application on your phone or tablet. Once it loads, the app will ask you to agree to some terms, so tap the checkbox. After that, tap the button on the right which says "PC syncing and Device Change" (PC連動・機種変更), as pictured below

Sync3.png

5. Now tap the yellow button in the box on the left, just like in step 2 earlier.

Sync4.png

6. Finally, enter the ID you generated in the first box and the password you chose in the second box shown below. Click the yellow button (shown boxed in red below) to continue.

Sync5.png

7. A screen will show up that lists the name your PC Bungo to Alchemist account is under and your librarian level. Once you've confirmed that it is your account, click the yellow button (shown boxed in red below) that says "Yes" (はい) on it on the left.

Sync6.png

Your mobile app should now be able to open the same account that you have been playing on your PC version. Congratulations!

Syncing App -> PC

If you started playing Bungo to Alchemist on your phone or tablet on the mobile application first, the following steps will allow you to sync that data with the PC version of the game.

  • Note: If you have already synced your app to one DMM account, you will be unable to sync it to another DMM account.

Step 1: Retrieve your "syncing ID" (連動ID) from your mobile app

1. Go to the game's title screen and there access the brown button "Menu" (メニュー) on top right corner. A list of buttons will show up.

Sync7.png

2. From the list, pick the first button "PC Syncing and Device Change" (PC連動・機種変更).

Sync7b.png

3. After clicking that button, you will see two options. Tap the golden button "Sync Data" (データ連動はこちら) on the left. You will be taken to a screen where you can determine which way you want to transfer your data.

  • Note: If you have already synced your app to PC, you can't access this option at all, but instead will have a message displayed in red "Syncing already arranged" (既に連動済みです).
Sync2b.png

4. Tap the golden button "Issue Syncing ID" (連動IDを発行) on the right, as you want your data from phone to PC.

Sync8.png

5. You will be taken to a screen where you will see your ID and you need to create a password.

Sync11.png

6. Choose a password, which needs to be between 4-20 (inclusive) regular-sized alphanumeric characters.

  • The first field is your auto-generated ID.
  • The second field is your password of choice.
  • The third field is the same password retyped.

Have both these pieces of information available to enter in step 3 later during this syncing process.

Step 2: Find the right syncing form on the PC

1. Login to your DMM account on PC. Open the direct game page, then click the banner under the game that says "Link with mobile app here" (スマホ連動はこちら) on it. It is the one boxed in red below, right below the game window. (Note: If you do not see this banner, try clearing your cookies/cache and then refreshing or logging in to your game in an incognito window)

Sync1.png

2. Scroll down, and you will see in the table two boxes with yellow buttons in them. Click the yellow button in the box on the right, as boxed in red below.

Sync12.png

Step 3: Input your syncing information to the PC

Enter the "syncing ID" (連動ID) you retrieved from the app into the first box. Enter the password you chose into the second box. Remember to type them in regular-sized alphanumeric characters. If the information is correct, the game should refresh or ask to do so. If not, access the game again and now you should have your account playable on PC.

Sync13.png

Transfering data between mobile devices

  • Note: This is required only in case you are app-only player! (In case you play on both platforms or have previously issued ID and password, you can use your already existing ID and password when transfering data from old mobile device to another).

Step 1: Retrieve your "syncing ID" (連動ID)

1. Go to the game's title screen and there access the brown button "Menu" (メニュー) on top right corner. A list of buttons will show up.

Sync7.png

2. From the list, pick the first button "PC Syncing and Device Change" (PC連動・機種変更).

Sync7b.png

3. Tap the golden button "Change Device here" (機種変更はこちら) on the right. You will be taken to a screen with two similar buttons.

Sync9.png

4. Tap golden "Issue transfer ID" (移行IDを発行) button on the left.

Sync10.png

5. Write down your ID and create a password.

Sync11.png

Password needs to be between 4-20 (inclusive) regular-sized alphanumeric characters.

  • The first field is your auto-generated ID.
  • The second field is your password of choice.
  • The third field is the same password retyped.

Step 2: Inputting and acquiring your data on new mobile device

1. On new mobile device, go to the familiar screen shown below in the screenshot. This time you are supposed to choose the golden button "Inpur transfer ID (移行IDを入力) on the right.

Sync12b.png

2. Input your ID and previously created password.

Sync5.png

3. A screen will show up that lists the name of your account and your librarian level. Once you've confirmed that it is your account, click the yellow button (shown boxed in red below) that says "はい" on it on the left.

Sync6.png

Now you can play your account on the new mobile device.

  • Note: Your account data can be on one mobile device at a time. If you try to have your account on multiple devices, the latest one will be playable and you will be logged out from other devices.

Binding account

If you are playing the game on mobile only, you should ensure that your account is safe by binding it. Most safest option is to sync your data to the browser version of the game, as you can always issue new password both to DMM GAMES (in case you forget it) and issue new password for your mobile account too on DMM whenever needed. If you don't have a PC, then you have to keep extra care of your mobile account details.

Retrieve your account info (same as Step 1 in App->App or App->PC!)

Keep the ID and password in safe (possibly take a screenshot + write down to a paper). A new password may be issued whenever needed as long as you have access to your account. ID is always the same for your account, only the password may be changed.

App Menu

In the app version of the game there are various buttons on the game's title screen. Access the menu by tapping the brown button "Menu" (メニュー).

Sync7.png

A list below will open up, and the following buttons will be introduced in next section.

Sync7b.png

PC Syncing & Device Change

PC Syncing and Device Change (PC連動・機種変更). In earlier syncing tutorials this button was in frequent use, but it doesn't really have any other purpose outside of syncing the different game versions with each other, or tranferring mobile account from device to another.

Inquiry

Inquiry (お問い合わせ), like the name suggests, is the place for mobile users to access the "Frequently Asked Questions" or shortly known as FAQ (よくある質問) and actual "Inquiry" (お問い合わせ) buttons. Please be aware that both have information only in Japanese, and inquiries for the game staff must be done in Japanese.

Re-download Game Data

Re-download Game Data or "Reload Game Data" (データ再読み込み) is useful in situations when your app is behaving weird. It will redownload the game's sprites and sound files in an attempt to fix them, but account details will remain untouched. By tapping the button, a pop-up will show up and tell that it will re-download some files and asks you to "Agree" (はい) or "Cancel" (いいえ).

Light Mode Settings

Light Mode Settings (軽量化設定). Light Mode is a feature that shortens loading times, reduces the amount of data communication by lowering the quality of sprites, reduces animations and it improves performance on older or low-end devices. Activating this mode will refresh your game once. Do note that Light Mode is synchronized between platforms, and can't be set to be in use only on one platform.

See the Light Mode page for more details.

Watch Prologue

Watch Prologue (プロローグを見る), basically another way to see the game's current Prologue, which is played upon accessing the game for both new players and returning players the first time they access the game since the big update on July 28th, 2021. The said prologue can also be watched in Office from the "Register" button and there the "Recollections Register".

Delete User Data

Delete User Data (ユーザーデータ消除), like the name suggests, will delete your account data completely from the device. This means that if you end up deleting the data and don't have your account backed up, you won't be able to get your account back. By accessing this button, you will be asked to confirm the deletion with "Yes" (はい) or "No" (いいえ). Please do be careful when pressing this red button.

Important Information

The user interface for the mobile app is pretty much the same as the desktop version. However, one important difference is that cash shop purchases are slightly different with how they are made, and do the Imperial Tickets expire or not. Please see the Purchasing page for more details.

If you have other questions relating to the app, please post them here or on the Frequently Asked Questions page, and Wiki staff will get to them when we can.

In case of issues, please check out Troubleshooting page for help with both the PC and mobile version of the game.

Mobile App FAQ

Compilation of most commonly asked questions regarding the mobile app. More help can be found from Frequently Asked Questions page, or on Troubleshooting page.

  • Can I play my account both on PC and mobile?

Yes, like it has been mentioned on this page already, the game supports crossplatform play.

  • How much space does the game take on mobile?

There's no definite answer to this due it being OS-specific question, and your device and the game account itself also make the size vary a little. But in most cases the game takes between 100 MB to 300 MB. The game requires stabile internet connection due to it being download data-dependent, so rather than taking up space from the device itself, it constantly uses data during playing session which makes it not recommended to be played with limited mobile data.

  • Are there any differences between the PC and mobile versions of the game?

Practically the game is identical regardless of platorm. The small differences are that the mobile version supports swiping between some game menus, and the Imperial Tickets (paid currency) do not expire, meanwhile the PC version supports only clicking and the Imperial Tickets are valid only for 180 days since purchase. On the contrary, DMM holds game festivals several times a year where PC players of the game may get some resources like Memoria Stones and DMMP (DMM Points, paid currency of DMM that can be used to buy Imperial Tickets on the PC version of the game) for free by taking part in the festivals.

  • Can I have my account on multiple mobile devices at a time?

No, the game doesn't support multiple mobile devices at a time. If you you try to login to your account on mobile device X while previously you've played the game on mobile device Y, the game will log you out from the previous device (Y in this case). If you wish to jump between devices, you must re-download the game data every time (can take up plenty of mobile data, so please do be careful) when you try to login to the game on device where the game data doesn't exist yet or anymore.

  • Does the syncing ID and password expire?

No, they do not expire. The syncing ID is pre-determined and can't be changed; it's always the same and very important thing you have to remember of your account beside some other smaller details (player name, level etc.). Meanwhile password is something you can change all freely, but you can also keep using the same password as long as you remember it.

  • Why am I unable to log in to new device even though I write my syncing ID and password right?

The mobile app version of the game has been noted to experience this problem at times and it can be very persistent even in some cases. If you are sure that your ID and password is right (and that you haven't changed the password at some point):
1. Make sure that there aren't spaces in the front, middle or after the ID and password. It's common that especially if you copy-paste them, there might end up characters that are not actually part of the ID or password. Preferably write them by yourself rather than opting for copy-paste.
2. (in case the previous option didn't solve the problem) Close the game and try launching it again, giving another attempt at logging in. You might need to repeat this several times. If possible try out both wifi and mobile data to see if the problem is just bad connection.
3. If the problem persists, try re-installing the game.

  • I want to login to my account on mobile, but I forgot the password. What do I do?

If you've got your account synced to PC too, you may login there to issue yourself a new password for the mobile version. In case you do not have your account synced to PC, you might need to contact DMM (in Japanese) through the in-game form and request a new password. Do note that you can do this only once per account according to DMM's official statement regarding account recovery, so please do take care of your account on mobile.

  • I want to buy Imperial Tickets on mobile, how do I do that?

Please do check Purchasing page for a guide.

  • I bought Imperial Tickets on mobile / PC, why can't I see or use them on the other platform?

The Imperial Tickets have platform-specific variants due to various reasons regarding DMM wanting to stay as the main platform for the game, and Google and Apple have their own user conduct which differ from DMM's.
