Introduction

「たとひ魂は砕けても、想いは砕けない」
"Though a soul may perish, its feelings shall never fade away."
*A reference to quote from Akutagawa Ryuunosuke's works "Aphorisms of a Pygmy" and "Dialogue in the Dark". The original quote goes "Even if gems shatter, roof tiles will remain whole." In the context where Akutagawa used this quote, he was talking about how great writers' works and influence will stay around even if the authors themselves are long gone.
BunAl Main Characters

You are taken to a world where you can meet renowned writers of the past. Your task as a Special Duty Librarian (特務司書, tokumu shisho), also known as Alchemist (アルケミスト), is to delve into tainted books (有碍書, yuugaisho) to purify them with parties composed of writers (文豪, bungou) to fight the Taints (侵蝕者, shinshokusha), who have tainted the books. To gain writers, you must transmigrate them by delving into ensouled books (有魂書, yuukonsho), or by meeting them while battling Taints in tainted books.

Bungou to Alchemist ("BunAl") was launched on November 1, 2016, by DMM GAMES (EXNOA LLC) as a browser game, expanding to mobile platform the following year on June 14. Through the years the franchise has expanded into various media like novels, stage plays and even anime.
